How to buy you car tax online?

The Government says buying car tax online can be done within minutes. You can have immediate cover without moving from the comfort of your own chair !

Well you can - usually. However, as with most things, it is never quite that simple as that. So, please check these points below to see whether you are really able to do this online, or whether you will have tax your car the 'poor' old fashioned way - face to face at the Post Office counter.

You are ok to proceed if you have the following 5 items:

• A new style VT20 MOT certificate.
• The 16 digit reference number shown on your renewal reminder (or the 11 digit reference number on your Registration logbook)
• Your vehicle registration mark (numberplate).
• A debit or credit card to pay for your tax.
• Valid motor insurance in place. **
