What is SORN?
Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) means that, by law, the DVLA must be informed when a registered keeper does not re-license a vehicle because it is not being used or kept on a public road.
A SORN declaration is valid for 12 months unless you re-license, sell, permanently export or scrap the vehicle before the 12 months have expired.
The legislation that covers SORN is the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002.
Vehicle Licence Application / SORN Declaration
The Vehicle Licence Application/SORN Declaration, also known as the reminder (or V11) is issued by the DVLA before the expiry date of a tax disc or SORN declaration. The Vehicle Licence Application is blue and white in colour and has a reference number on the front in a yellow box on the right hand side. This reference number can be used to apply for a tax disc or to declare SORN
To declare SORN you are going to need either :
The V11 (the Vehicle Licence Application/SORN Declaration)
You should NOT declare SORN if the vehicle has been sold, permanently exported or scrapped.
